It is prepared by dipping the fish which is usually cod, haddock or plaice fish in batter and deep-fried. The chips are cut thick and deep fried twice until it is cooked and crispy. It is then sprinkled with salt and malt vinegar.

It is normally served with mushy peas, pickled egg or onion, pickled cucumber called wally or some curry sauce.

It is normally eaten as a snack food at various times of the day.
