It has a population of about 6.1 million people.




Gallo Pinto is a famous Nicaraguan dish.

Gallo Pinto is a rice and beans dish.

It is made of white rice, red beans, diced onions, bell peppers and garlic.

It is prepared by frying together all the ingredients in coconut oil in a large skillet. The boiled water from the beans give the mixture a reddish colour.

It is normally garnished with parsley.

It can be eaten either for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
