Laplap (Vanuatu food)

Republic of Vanuatu is a Pacific Island country in the Oceania continent.

It's capital city is Port Vila.

It has a population of around 270,402 people.



Laplap or Lap Lap is a famous Vanuatu food.

Laplap is a type of cake cooked in a ground oven.

Laplap is made by grating cassava, taro roots or yams into a doughy paste which is then put onto taro, banana or wild leaves and soaked in coconut cream.

Pieces of chicken, fish and prawns are normally added into the mixture.

The leaves are then wrapped around the doughy mix, tied with strands of vine and then placed in a ground oven with hot stoned above and below the oven.

It is normally eaten for lunch or special occasions.
